Membership and cost
Do I Still Need Health Insurance With a WheelHouse Health Membership?
Membership covers your everyday care; insurance protects you from big bills. Here is how the two work together and which coverage makes sense.

Who covers what
| Membership | Health insurance | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary care visits | Yes | Sometimes, with copays |
| Messaging your clinician | Yes | Rarely |
| Discounted labs | Yes (cash price) | Covered after deductible |
| Specialists, imaging | Coordinated by us | Yes |
| Hospital, ER, surgery | No | Yes |
| Many prescriptions | Sent by us | Covered by plan |

A popular pairing
Many members choose a lower-premium, high-deductible insurance plan for catastrophic protection and use a membership for everyday care. Under 2026 rules, qualifying memberships can be paid from an HSA (see HSA and FSA).
If you have no insurance
A membership gives you a primary care home, but it cannot protect you from hospital bills. If you are uninsured, explore coverage on HealthCare.gov, especially during open enrollment.

Questions people ask
Do you accept insurance?
No. We are a direct-pay practice, which keeps prices transparent.
Can I get reimbursed by my insurer?
Some plans reimburse visits as out-of-network; ask us for a receipt and check with your insurer.
Does Medicare work with a membership?
Medicare rules are specific; ask us before joining so we can explain your options.
